MODX SEO Services

MODX gives you full control over HTML: no imposed markup, flexible fields and built-in caching. That is also why SEO on MODX depends on how the templates are built: clean URLs, structured data, the sitemap and language versions are all set up by hand. We audit the technical side, bring your templates into shape and grow traffic to the pages that bring in leads.

Why MODX works well for SEO

The markup is entirely in the developer's hands, so a site can be fast and clean at the code level. SEO fields, structure and structured data can be tailored precisely to the task, with no limits from a theme or a page builder.

  • Clean HTMLThe platform does not inject its own code into templates: the page contains only what the developer built. That is a solid base for speed and a correct heading structure.
  • SEO fields in every resourcePage title, long title, description, the alias for clean URLs and extra fields (TVs) let you control the title, description and H1 of every page.
  • Built-in cachingWith snippets called correctly, pages are served from cache and load fast even on ordinary hosting.
  • Flexible structureThe resource tree, templates and chunks let you build a structure around search demand: services, categories, cities, articles.

Common SEO problems on MODX sites

Most problems on these sites come not from the platform but from how the site was built: clean URLs set up only partly, duplicates left open, structured data and language versions done halfway. Here is what we check first.

  • Clean URLs not fully set up

Friendly URLs are switched on in system settings and only work once ht.access is renamed to .htaccess or nginx is configured. Even then, pages often stay reachable at the technical address index.php?id=….

  • Duplicate pages

One page opens with .html and without, with a trailing slash and without, the home page is available both as / and under its own alias, and pagination and filters add parameters. We close duplicates with 301 redirects, canonical tags and meta robots.

One website page available at several addresses, only one of which is correct
  • Structured data written by hand

MODX does not generate Schema.org on its own: Organization, BreadcrumbList, Product or Article has to be written into templates and chunks. On many sites it is missing entirely, or the markup does not match the visible content.

  • Sitemap and robots.txt

MODX has no sitemap of its own. It is generated with a snippet, and service and closed pages often end up in it. robots.txt is usually created as a separate resource, and it is easy to break when editing.

  • Multilingual setup with contexts

Language versions are built as separate contexts with an add-on such as Babel. hreflang then has to be output in the template by hand, and this is where errors and untranslated aliases show up most often.

  • Outdated versions and add-ons

Sites on old versions of MODX and PHP, with abandoned add-ons, are slower and get hacked more often. We check versions, uncached snippet calls and traces of SEO spam in the index.

SEO for a miniShop2 store

Stores usually run on miniShop2 with filters on mSearch2. Filter and sorting parameters create thousands of addresses with identical content, and product pages are reachable through different categories. We set up canonical tags and indexing rules, turn the filter combinations worth ranking into landing pages, add Product markup with price and availability, and build feeds for Google Merchant Center, Rozetka, Prom and Hotline.

Your MODX site in AI answers

Clean HTML, well-structured pages and correct structured data help your content appear in Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT answers. On MODX all of this is set up in the templates, with no change of platform.

When to expect results from MODX SEO

The first changes in rankings are usually visible 1–3 months after technical fixes. Noticeable traffic growth comes in 4–6 months. We give an exact forecast after the audit.

  • Template quality

The more manual rework the templates need, the longer the technical stage takes.

  • Domain age and competition

A new site in a competitive niche needs more time.

  • Developer availability

Most fixes go into templates, so how fast they ship depends on who makes them and how quickly.

How much MODX SEO costs

The cost depends on the type of site, the number of pages and languages, the state of the templates and the competition in your niche. Links, copy and, if needed, developer hours are paid for separately from our work. We give the exact figure after a free audit.

MODX SEO: frequently asked questions

How do I enable clean URLs in MODX?

In system settings, enable friendly URLs and aliases, then rename the ht.access file to .htaccess (for nginx, add the rewrite rules). After that, check that technical addresses like index.php?id=… redirect to the clean URLs, otherwise duplicates remain.

Do I need a separate SEO add-on for MODX?

Not necessarily. The main SEO fields exist in every resource, and structured data, canonical tags and hreflang are more reliably written into the templates. Add-ons are useful for the sitemap, redirects and checking meta tag length, but each one has to be kept up to date.

How do I build Ukrainian and Russian versions on MODX?

Use a separate context for each language and an add-on such as Babel, which links the translated resources. Each language needs its own address, a translated alias and title, and hreflang output in the template for every pair of pages.

Should I update MODX to the latest version for SEO?

Updating the core and PHP matters for speed and security, but a jump between major versions can break old add-ons and templates. We first make a copy of the site and check compatibility, and only then update the live site.

Should I move from MODX to another CMS?

Usually not. For SEO, templates, structure and content matter more than the platform itself. A move makes sense if the site has no developer or the platform no longer covers business needs, and then it must be done with a full redirect plan.

Can you work with our developer?

Yes. We prepare a technical brief for your site and check the implementation. If you have no developer, we can make the changes ourselves.

Do you guarantee a top Google ranking?

No. Rankings depend on algorithms and competitors. The contract fixes the scope of work, and a monthly report shows how rankings, traffic and leads change.
